5 Fresh Ways to Add a Punch of Character to Your New Home

One of the best things about building your own home is you can design it to become a full reflection of your personal style and preferences. If you hire the best new home builders for the job, you can work closely with them to ensure the perfect execution of all the creative elements you want for your house.

When you are working with highly experienced home builders, they have no issue accommodating special requests. They will even conduct their own research to make sure that your vision for your future residence is realised.

If you are, however, low on ideas on how to create a home that is distinct from the rest but also meets the typical functional standards of one, listed below are five fresh ideas to inspire you:

1. A wall of glass

This may not seem unique or fresh, but what “funky” folks are doing differently with this is they use different sizes and shapes of doors and windows to create one full wall of glass. It’s a lovely take on the typical glass wall that a lot of people love to allow more natural light to spill indoors.

It takes a solid amount of technical expertise to create this wall, which is a combination of massive glass doors, fixed windows, and operational windows like horizontal and vertical sliders, but the final result is definitely worth it. It’s uncommon yet pretty, and definitely functional.

2. Different floor levels instead of room partitions

Most people often overlook the ability of different floor levels in distinguishing the different rooms or sections of the house. If the home that you are building is narrow, which is why you want to give it a more open appearance, forget about room partitions. Instead, create multi-levelled flooring.

This design strategy will not only section off rooms in a unique yet seamless way, but it can also increase the utility of your floors. For example, different floor levels can serve as additional seats and tables for your home. They can also create a small stage for parties or social gatherings you’re hosting. Plus, they provide the opportunity to place in additional storage as well.

It is worth mentioning, too, that this creative design idea reduces the need for certain furniture, meaning, you can actually save some money if you implement it for your house.

3. Geometric wall design

Another idea that is rather easy to implement but is rarely used by people who are building their new home is integrating a geometric wall design.

Drywall is actually easy to customise so it is more visually interesting. You can cut a geometric shape out of it instead of just embellishing it with moulding and trimmings. Add recessed lighting and paint the inner part of the wall a vibrant colour and you’ll have a wall that needs no further decorating.

Another approach you can take is by creating an accordion-like shape to the wall by installing similarly sized wooden panels in a diagonal position. Inserting lights between panels will make the walls an even more attractive feature of the building.

4. Woven fabric floors

Floors do not always need to be just hardwood, tiles, or concrete. They can be decorated with special woven fabric to bring more colour into the interior. You can use this idea for the different elevations of the structure, particularly, the stairs. This adds a really nice texture to the home interior and even provides the side advantage of reducing indoor noise.

A special cleaning routine may be required for this. But, if you love a stylish home, it is a compromise that will prove to be worth it, especially if you use a variety of luxurious and classic patterns that you love.

5. Antique corbels for entryways

These charming accents are often installed outside the house but they actually look just as lovely indoors especially when you want to add more definition to the entryways of open spaces. Builders can just hammer them into the sides of a room or simply glue them on.

For a new construction, these are just some of the ways to make a house beautiful. You can have your own personal take on every one of these ideas so you get a home that is full of character and which is distinctly done in your style.
